Ram Raja Mandir, Orchha

Located in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, Ram Raja Mandir is a unique temple in India where devotees worship Lord Shri Ram as a King.

The 400-Year-Old Legend: In the 16th century, Queen Ganesh Kunwari is believed to have brought Lord Ram from Ayodhya to Orchha. According to legend, Lord Ram placed three conditions: He would travel during Pushya Nakshatra, become the King of Orchha, and remain forever at the first place where he was seated.

The Queen placed the idol of Lord Ram in her palace, but it could not be moved. Thus, the palace became Ram Raja Mandir.

Unique Tradition: Lord Ram is treated as the King of Orchha and receives a daily police Guard of Honour and royal respect. Nearby stands the Chaturbhuj Temple, originally built for Lord Ram.
